President's Message

2016 President - Leslie Lawrence

Dear Fellow Nobles,

Welcome to summer! As most of you know, summer also brings about parade season for Tri-County Shrine Club. Before this newsletter went to print, we began with the Clarksville little league parade, which is probably one of our longest parades. We will also go to Madison on July 2nd for the regatta parade; the parade route is usually lined with tens of thousands of spectators. On July 4th, we will be in Pekin, which is the longest running Independence Day celebration in the country.

While we have plenty of fun and fellowship at these parades, it is also a chance for us to make our presence known to the public. While waiting for parades to begin, people will ask us about the work we do for the children being treated in the different children’s hospitals that we help to support through our many activities. Also along the route, we see many people waving and saying “Thank you for all you do.”

During this time of year many of us are going on vacation or visiting with relatives, spending time with our children and/or grandchildren. This should be a time to reflect how blessed we are that most of our family members are healthy. Remembering that there are some families who are not that lucky. That is why the Shriners Hospitals for Children ® exist.

The children we support are not only suffering from birth defects, but injuries and/or burns from accidents. At these hospitals, they receive treatments regardless of their families’ ability to pay.

This is where we come in; through our fund raising efforts we are able to contribute funds for treatment, and transportation to and from these hospitals.

Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who help with Bingo, Texas Holdém, and the others events that we hold to raise funds. Without their efforts, we would not be able to operate these functions. I can’t possibly say thank you often enough for their help.

In closing, I would like to remind all of you to be safe if you travel out of town this vacation season. Hug your children and grandchildren every chance you get, and thank God they are healthy. Also remember the children who are patients in the different hospitals, and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Fraternally yours,
Leslie Lawrence P.M.
